AMEC awarded 11-year contract with EDF for new UK nuclear power stations
AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has signed a major contract with EDF Group to support their Architect Engineering operation for the proposed delivery of four new EPR nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point and Sizewell in the UK.
The contract, which will run for 11 years with an option to extend for a further four, could be worth up to £300 million. Under the contract AMEC will work with EDF in France and the UK in the key areas of project management, engineering and construction management. AMEC will also be responsible for assisting the EDF Group project management teams with engineering and site management activities, together with providing specific engineering studies for the non-nuclear sections of plant in the power stations.
“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract in the strategically important nuclear energy sector,” said AMEC Chief Executive Samir Brikho. “Nuclear, along with the natural resources, clean energy, water and environmental sectors, forms a key part of our Vision 2015 business strategy for assured growth.”
